Pregnancy Massage

We want you to be able to continue being active during your pregnancy

At A Little R&R we will support you with a pregnancy massage that can help to relieve any aches and pains that your changing body experiences.

We use very comfortable 'body form' pillows to give the most comfort for pregnant women, lying both side-lying and face down if desired,

(which depends on the bump and how you're feeling on the day).

We are confident in offering pregnancy massage through all stages of your pregnancy, taking care with the needs of your individual pregnant body.

We work alongside the amazing team at Opti-mum on Tuesdays.

A pregnancy massage can definitely help with relieving the symptoms of anxiety or depression

and might also help with:

Easing tension, both muscular and emotional

Reduced back, hip and neck aches

Reduced anxiety symptoms which in turn helps bub to relax

Putting a smile back on your face

Tailoring the session to suit your needs on the day

Reduces tension headaches

Improved flexibility of joints, where needed

Better sleep due to less anxiety

Testimonial

"Thea is an amazingly skilled practitioner who does the best deep tissue massages! I went to see her when I was heavily pregnant and experiencing a lot of hip pain from my growing load. I felt a big improvement even after one massage. She's got all these amazing pregnancy specific pillows that allow you to completely relax and fall asleep drooling if you wish! And of course you don't need to be pregnant to use her massage service."

Post natal / Mum's & Bub's Massage

Once you've given birth, your body goes through some changes yet again and sometimes it can be hard to find time to get away with the little one in tow.

If you have neck & shoulder pain from feeding, lingering hip pain or just need some stress relief and sleep, then we believe we can help.

Feel free to bring your bundle of joy along to this special 45 min session,

where bub can be in their carrier or lying next to you on the table.

There is no set price for this session, as one never knows how bubs will react to a new environment, so I ask for a koha payment.

Teaching pregnancy massage to your partner

We offer a session where you can bring in your partner and we can teach them a few tricks to massage you amazingly while at home in bed.

It is generally best to book in for a pregnancy massage after this session, as it isn't very relaxing for the mama - there's lots of moving about and discussion on how to do these moves. Such a great way for your partner to feel helpful and valued.

Some myths around pregnancy

massage busted

No massage during the 1st Trimester.

This myth is due to therapists in the USA being sued because of women falsely blaming them for a miscarriage. There is no physical mechanism where experienced and trained therapists can induce a miscarriage. 1 in 5 pregnancies result in miscarriage and it's not talked about much I'm sorry to say.

Only lie on your left

Yes and no. This is so the Vena Cava vein on the right side of your torso doesn't get squished by bump. However this is dependent on your individual bump size and trimester. Your body will tell you very loudly if your Vena Cava is being squished and a simple repositioning will alleviate the issue. If you lie on your left as soon as you know you're pregnant, all you'll get is a very sore left hip.

Definitely don't lie on your front

Yes and no. Again this very much depends on the woman, her individual bump, what trimester she's in and the pillows used for support.  We don't recommend lying on the tables with holes in them but we do recommend the BodyForm pillows that we use here.

Don't massage those ankles!

There is no magic spot on the body that will induce labour, if there was - we wouldn't need abortion clinics. The ancient theory of pressure points relating to the uterus hasn't been proven scientifically (ethically impossible to do so) and has been disproven here: Cochrane review. It's absolutely safe to massage your ankles, shoulder & wrists in any point during pregnancy but if you don't feel comfy with it, we won't do it - simple as that.

We’ll ask you to get undressed down to your underwear and lie on the massage table, between the sheets. You can either choose to lie on your front if comfortable or lie on your side. If lying on the table isn’t comfortable for you we can massage you in the seated position or with you leaning on a large exercise ball.

After the massage, we’ll help you sit up, give you some tea and an edible treat and leave you to get dressed in your own time in a hazy, blissed out space.

Relax, you’re in safe hands with us.
